On 3 June 2026, AI4SEA participated in the SUNBIO Workshop on Posidonia oceanica Restoration, hosted by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) in Vilanova i la Geltrú. During the event, PhD candidate Ainhoa Idiondo Molina (ICM-CSIC) presented the talk “Monitoring Seagrass Ecosystems: Bridging Traditional Methods and Robotics-Based Approaches”, introducing the objectives and work plan of the AI4SEA project.

The workshop brought together researchers, practitioners, and stakeholders working on seagrass restoration and conservation, providing an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas on restoration effectiveness, scalable transplantation methods, remote sensing and AI-based monitoring, citizen science initiatives, and the use of innovative technologies to support ecosystem recovery. The discussions highlighted the importance of integrating advanced monitoring tools with restoration actions to improve the long-term conservation of Posidonia oceanica meadows.
We thank the SUNBIO consortium for organizing this inspiring event and look forward to future collaborations within the marine restoration community.
