The AI4SEA team from the University of Girona (UdG) recently participated in Breaking the Surface (BtS) 2026, an international summer school and workshop focused on maritime robotics and its applications.
Held in October 2026, the event featured presentations by AI4SEA Principal Investigators Prof. Pere Ridao and Dr. Narcís Palomeras, who highlighted the latest advances in autonomous underwater intervention and intelligent robotic systems developed within the project.

Evolution of Intervention Autonomous Underwater Vehicles
Prof. Pere Ridao presented a retrospective and forward-looking overview of Intervention Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (I-AUVs), focusing on how artificial intelligence techniques are enabling underwater robots to perform complex physical tasks in subsea environments.
AI for marine habitat monitoring and restoration
Dr. Narcís Palomeras presented methodologies developed within AI4SEA for deploying intelligent AUVs in ecological assessment, habitat mapping and automated restoration workflows.
Addressing challenges in maritime robotics
The session brought together researchers, industry experts and marine scientists to discuss real-world challenges in subsea intervention, multimodal perception and autonomous navigation.
